What is a Half Scale Block?
- Half scale blocks are miniature versions of basic garment patterns, like bodices, skirts, or sleeves, that represent a smaller, half-size version of the full-scale pattern
- These pattern blocks are scaled-down versions of our full-size pattern blocks at a 1:2 ratio. ie….Half the Scale
- They are used to practice and experiment with pattern making techniques before committing to full-scale patterns.
- This allows for cost-effective and space-efficient development of garment designs.
Why are they used:
- Practice and experimentation: Half scale allows for learning and trying out new pattern cutting techniques without wasting fabric, paper, or time.
- Developing design ideas: Before committing to a full-scale pattern, designers can test their design concepts on half-scale blocks.
- Cost and space efficiency: Half scale blocks are becoming a more popular option when experimenting , testing pattern making techniques and also recording your processes.. Working with half-scale patterns requires less material and space, making it a budget-friendly option.
How they relate to full-scale patterns:
- Half scale is 1:2, meaning one unit on the half-scale pattern represents two units on the full-scale pattern
- Our Half Scale Blocks are 1/2 the size of our Full Scale Blocks
How to use them:
When producing a half-scale pattern, measurements are simply halved from the full-scale dimensions, including seam allowances or use a Half Scale Ruler.
